The brief

The client needed a portal frame building in Nakuru: a clear-span steel structure that gives open, flexible floor space.

What we did

  • Engineering: we engineered the portal frames, bracing and secondary steel for the building's loads, and produced the drawings used in the workshop and on site.
  • Fabrication: the columns, rafters, haunches and connections were fabricated in our workshop to the approved drawings.
  • Erection: our crew erected the frames on site. They set out against the foundations, then lifted, aligned and braced each frame in sequence.

Portal frames depend on accurate haunch and apex connections. Because our engineers and fabricators work together, the connections were detailed so they could be made accurately in the workshop and bolted up quickly on site.

The outcome

The client received an erected portal frame building, engineered, fabricated and erected by one team.

Portal frames are one of the most economical ways to enclose a large floor area. Request a quote to get an instant preliminary estimate for yours.
